Meghann & Joe’s Sunrise Cocoa Beach Engagement

Meghann and Joseph celebrated their engagement with a gorgeous engagement session at Cocoa Beach, Florida. The session will definitely go down in the books as being one of my all time favorite engagement sessions. Their vibrant personalities, warm aura, and big smiles shined through in the images to truly capture their passion and love for one another.

The two met back in high school, but didn’t actually become friends until junior year. They remained friends until graduation, but parted ways after high school. A year went by and the two reconnected at a friends party and started talking. Only a few days later, Joe asked Meghann out on an official date to the movies and a sweet walk on the beach. Since that day they have been together, six years later.

Meghann never would have guessed what was in store for her new year. On January 2, 2015, the two met up for dinner and a play with her family to celebrate her grandmother’s birthday. The family gathered at Cooper’s Hawk in Waterford Lakes where the food and wine are absolutely delicious. After an incredible dinner while waiting for dessert, the family decided to take a group picture. After the group had their turn, Meghann and Joe had a moment for photos of just the two of them. Everyone took out their phones and started snapping away. It was the moment Joe had been waiting for all night. He turned Meghann around and brought her into him, dropped to one knee, and asked for to spend the rest of her life with him. It was truly the “happiest moment of my life… so far.”

Their engagement session was definitely a little bit on the daring side. Many of my clients know that I am willing to climb mountains, but jumping waste deep in the ocean with my camera was slightly nerving. Regardless it was totally worth the shot! We started off with the sunrise and beautiful panoramic images of the ocean. Shooting from a far at first helps everyone warm up to the camera and gives the couple a moment alone to soak in the excitement of having their pictures taken.

Meghann picked the perfect spot among the sea grass and white sand at Cocoa Beach. Her blue ombre dress was just to die for as it waved in the wind. The dress was a beautiful match to Joe’s plaid blue and white shirt and black hipster jeans. I loved their look light airy look, which was the right choice for a beach session. After grabbing some shots in the sand we ventured closer to the water. Waves crashing from afar, we looked on with more editorial shots of the couple laughing, playing, and having fun on the beach.

And of course, it was time to be a little more daring. Meghann and Joe were such good sports and didn’t bat an eye for a moment when I asked them to sit down and soak in the water. Still in their gorgeous garments, the two couldn’t help but laugh as the waves crashed around them. To me, these honest moments are the absolute best. I love their laughter and how it brings the photos to life.

For their second outfit of choice, we went with a bikini and board shorts to capture their more laid back personalities. I mean, it is the beach, so they fit right in!

Using a Ron Jon’s Surfboard, we grabbed a couple shots with the prop on the rustic, wooden boardwalk leading to the beach. I was even able to grab a starburst or two of the sun through the trees. Some of my favorite shots of the day came immediately after when we had the two laying on the surfboard and Meghann jumping on Joe’s back as they ran into the ocean.

Looking forward to capturing these two tie the knot and so excited to be their photographer!
