Creative Engagement Ideas
For this month’s bridal tips, we are chatting about creative ideas for your engagement session. A great way to warm up to the camera before your big day, engagement sessions are also a way showcase your love for one another and personalities. With so many locations, ideas, and themes, we wanted to share a few silly and fun ones that had a creative and or sentimental twist!
1. Location
Picking a location with meaning or a location that fits the two of you as a couple is so important. Our sweethearts Corey and Jason will soon be tying the knot at the Ritz in Orlando, and also picked the beautiful hotel as backdrop for their engagement session. Utilizing different areas from the ones planned out for their newlywed portraits during their wedding day in the near future, we ventured into the hotel’s garden and along the many hidden pathways for perfect photo ops.
2. Theme
Let me just say, I have amazing luck – knock on wood! When Katie and Kyle mentioned that they love dinosaurs, so much so that their reception was held in the Orlando Science Center’s Dino Room, I just knew that I had to incorporate dinosaurs into their engagement session too. Well, as luck may have it, right around the time we picked to do photos, Leu Gardens was having a dinosaur event where they brought in large sculptures of you guessed it – dinosaurs! As you can tell, we clearly had a blast incorporating one of their favorite things.
3. A little puppy love…
There is never a dull moment when pups are involved! Meet Tilly, a super sweet pup with a vibrant personality. Coming along with Brittney and Eric for their engagement, Tilly definitely livened up the session and brought a smile to everyones face. If your pup can walk on a leash, I say why not incorporate them into your engagement session! Ps. don’t forget the friend who owes you a favor that you can cash in to help be the puppy wrangler!
4. Family Engagement
Family is truly what matters most, and as the two of you join your lives together, you will be bringing your families together too. For many of our couples, they have little ones that we love to incorporate in what I call a “family engagement” session. It is such a great way to involve your kiddos or your fiancé’s kiddos in becoming a family unit.
5. Make it Colorful
Brian and Victoria surprised me with some pretty killer powder paint that we used in getting a little creative for their session. Wanting an engagement session that featured their playful and vibrant personalities, the two brought along tons of powder paint to “lovingly” throw at one another!
6. Work isn’t Just for Working
A great way to get a little creative with your engagement session, is to incorporate your careers. I pretty much jumped over the moon when I found out that John’s firestation was down to let us taking a few engagement photos. With it being a quiet day, we had the whole station to utilize, along with the trucks, hats, and other items that worked perfectly as props.
With so many ways to incorporate your personalities, passions, and creative sides, engagement sessions are a great way to showcase them. What matters most though, make it your own, have fun, and enjoy being with one another!
