Lindsay and Sufyan tied the knot during their intimate Indian elopement. The two envisioned a wedding at their families home surrounded by their closest friends and family!
How They Met
Three years ago in Atlanta on a Friday night a dusky tribesman studying to be a shaman healer was eating dinner with two merchant acquaintances. By at least one account the night was proceeding to be like any other, filled with banal conversational topics such as horsepower and the real estate market. The dusky tribesman feigned interest for a while and even participated at times. Alas, it was not the night for such trivial matters. The dusky man during a slight lull, turned around to observe his surroundings. A lioness was far off in the distance, consuming her catch of the day . The lioness , busy with her pride caught the glance of the dusky tribesman and let out a quiet growl. Fearing his own conspicuousness he turned away , but not without a grin. The night wore on and the dusky tribesman tried to steal additional glances and sights of the beautiful and strong lioness but she was nowhere to be found. She had disappeared with her pride. All was deemed lost and the conversation and interactions returned presumably to talks of ISIS and Brexit and oil Prices. The dusky tribesman ventured off in search of a new Oasis. He went far and wide around the city block, nearing the time for slumber. Eventually he stumbled into a shop of old named Ladybird. As he walked up the short wooden staircase to the patio he noticed the warm lights hanging from above. He turned to his left and the lioness was there. His gaze transfixed on her, attracted to the seemingly golden hue emanating from her solar face. She returned his gaze immediately, and from then on, the two could not remember a time when they did not know each other.
What They Love Most About One Another
Every day feels like an adventure. Like two deer in a quiet wood who’ve outrun all the hunters. Also, Sufyan is really really cute.
The Proposal
The Dusky Tribesman and the Lioness were hosting a Hippo and the Anxious Ferret . At dinner, the four discussed traditional healing practices known throughout the land. Now the Dusky Tribesman and the Lioness never thought to judge the belief of cultures unbeknownst to them. For a Fish cannot climb a tree and a bird not breathe underwater. As adventurers and knowledge seekers, the two understood their judgments and beliefs to be largely formed by social conditioning. This is not to say that the two were moral relativists, nay, but this is a matter beyond the scope of our tale. The Dusky Tribesman listened intently as the Hippo spoke polemically of ways of a people she did not understand nor care to. The Anxious Ferret began tapping her feet. The Hippo spoke on the vile existence of desert creatures , and their dehydrated ways. The Dusky Tribesman said, “Lo! but I am one of these so-called vile desert creatures. How can you generalize us like that?” This sent the Anxious Ferret into a mental frenzy and she began nibbling furiously on her coaster. The arrogant Hippo responded, “I knew a desert cricket once, thus, I know all. ” Suddenly, a dessert lizard happened across the table. The dessert lizard wore a hijab and the Hippo picked up its foot to smash the defenseless creature. The Anxious Ferret, to slow her anxious mind immediately went into downward dog and began saying “Ohm.” The Lioness was fierce in her defense and said, “Nay! Let this creature exist . Respect this creature as I respect you!.” “These lizards will bomb us all and force us to wear hijabs and alienate our rights.” The Hippo lifted up her foot and smashed the lizard. The Dusky Tribesman was hurt at the loss of his kin. The Lioness growled as she sensed the pain of her nomadic partner. The Anxious Ferret said, “Fuck it” and downed two Xanax. The Lioness shed no tear and ate the Hippo. Later that evening, the Dusky Tribesman was reminded of a talisman forged in the desert sands of yore. The talisman was said to bring blue water to those parched in the desert. When the two made the journey back home, he was reminded of the talisman, long ago forgotten. She quenched the thirsty man’s heart and so he gave her the talisman, to remind her that she is the water to his soul whenever it dries up.
Wedding Day Vision
Authentic, unscripted, and probably awkward (but in an endearing, rom-com-about-culture-clash kind of way). We are bringing together our families from very disparate cultures – Sufyan’s family is Pakistani, Lindsay’s mom is American and dad is Swedish, and Sufyan’s family outnumbers Lindsay’s by about 10 to 1. Sufyan’s mom and sister have done most of the planning; we haven’t asked too many questions and aren’t really sure what to expect…and there will be no booze to grease the social wheels. We just want to be married and celebrate with our families, the rest is peripheral. There is something kind of magical about just showing up and letting the day unfold and following wherever it goes, which is basically how we have always approached our relationship – minimal imposition of expectations, and as a result it has always just flowed and nothing has ever felt forced. As for concrete details: We’re pretty sure the wedding will be indoors (at least we sure hope it will be, because it is August in Florida and we will be in very heavy clothes). Colors will be red and blue (I think). Sufyan’s childhood imam (Muslim cleric) will be conducting the ceremony, he flew down from upstate NY to attend, so that’s pretty cool. I will be going to the venue (Sufyan’s sister’s house) on Sunday, August 5 and hope to have more details about logistics and the setup after I see the place.
